Fran A Tanner

Fran Averett Tanner died peacefully Dec 6th, 2012 at her home in Twin Falls. She was born in 1933, the only daughter of Byron "Bud" Lamont Averett and Lois Fridonia Richards. She graduated from Twin Falls High School where she became an editor of the Bruin School Newspaper. She went to Idaho State College, now ISU, for her BA in Journalism and Drama and then went to the University of Washington, at Everett for a Master's Degree. She won a Fulbright Scholarship to England and enjoyed her study and experience there. She married Marion Tanner in 1960 and mothered his 3 children. She had the opportunity to be on the faculty at the College of Southern Idaho when it began in 1965. She was interviewed for this job at the Rogerson Hotel by the first President, Dr. Taylor. The first classes were held at the Twin Falls High School.
She enjoyed working with the many students who took her classes in speech and drama.
For many years she directed students in school plays at the college, and she accompanied many students to speech and debate contests where her students enjoyed success. She attained a Doctorate Degree from BYU and wrote 7 books on speech and drama techniques during her teaching career. She was especially pleased when some of her books were accepted on the "Texas Authorized Book List". She loved to see the success of her students and their accomplishments.
She is survived by 3 children, Dennis Tanner of Gresham, Oregon, Jackie Miller of Buhl, and Lynn Tanner of Twin Falls. She was preceded in death by her husband Marion in 1991, by her two aunts, Vernis Craig, Enid Cook, and an Uncle, Mark Richards of Twin Falls.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 15, 2012 at 11:00am at the LDS Chapel at 667 Harrison St. A viewing will be held Friday, December 14, from 6-8pm at White Mortuary "Chapel by the Park" and are under the direction of Lance Cox and staff.
