Frances Mae Ireland Melcher

Frances M. Melcher, passed away Friday, June 3, 2011 at her home in Fruitland surrounded by her family. At her request
there will be no funeral service, but rather a small gathering to honor her life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 18, 2011 at the Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Fruitland. Condolences may be offered to Frances' family at www.shaffer-jensenchapel.com. Frances was born Aug. 17, 1926 in the small town of Blaine, CO to David Homer and Marie Ireland. She was the second of seven children and moved many times throughout her young life. Frances' senior year, the family arrived in Fruitland, ID where she would spend the rest of her life. She graduated from Fruitland High School in 1945 where she met the love of her life, Gerald R. "Jerry" Melcher. Frances and Jerry were married Nov. 7, 1948, celebrating 57 years together. They built their home on the Melcher family homestead and began their family. They had three children: Marilyn, Duane "Tug", and Gayle.
She was a kind hearted woman known by family and friends of never traveling without her goody bag. Christmas' was never without her homemade candies that she always shared. She was "Grandma" to many. She loved their summer trips to Pinehurst. Frances is survived by her children, Marilyn (Craig) Wilson and Duane (Rose) Melcher of Fruitland, and Gayle (Robert) Dillon of Boise; as well as her grandchildren, Jeff (Janice) Wilson and J.R. (Betsy) Wilson of Fruitland and Matthew, Joshua, and Amanda Dillon of Boise; and great grandchildren, Nicholas, Ali, Riley, and Sierra. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, David Homer Ireland, Jr.; great grandson, Colton Raymond Wilson; and her husband, Gerald Raymond Melcher in May 2006. The family is requesting in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Fruitland High School Alumni Association, P.O. Box 806, Fruitland, ID 83619, for the replacements of the graduating class pictures for the "Ole School" in Frances' name and memory.
