Ray was born on March 13, 1950 in Soda Springs, ID to his parents, Clifford Raymond Birrer and Geniel Roberts Birrer. He was soon joined by his two younger sisters, Jackie and Karen. Ray's family remained in Soda Springs until he was in Junior High. They then moved to Pocatello, Idaho, where he completed his high school education and graduated from Pocatello High School in 1968. He attended ISU for a short time before enlisting in the Navy as a Navy Sea Bee, operating heavy machinery in many places around the world. He was honorably discharged in 1976 and moved back to Soda Springs to continue his career as a heavy equipment operator for various mining operations. He met and later married Janet Emily Anderson on April 10, 1983. Ray and Janet moved to Twin Falls, shortly after their marriage. Ray attended CSI and became certified as a small engine repair mechanic while working as a heavy equipment operator. He continued his work career as a small engine mechanic and went on to work as a service repairman for Don's Irrigation and Farmore Irrigation until his retirement due to health reasons in 2005. In retirement Ray and Janet enjoyed traveling, spending time with their grandchildren, golfing and being avid CSI Athletics supporters. Ray was a member of and an officer for the CSI Booster Club. Ray was often found discussing sports in the stands with fellow fans or athletes, taking long bus rides to cheer the teams to victory or attending meetings and dinners for the team members. Janet often said, "If I ever die and you hold the funeral on a CSI game day, Ray won't be there!" Ray is survived by his wife of 32 years, Janet Emily, his two daughters, Suzanne Kay Olson(Jerry), and Amy Lynne Anderson (Carl Baecht), grandchildren Rylee Donald, Adison Kaylee and Blake James Olson and Carl's daughter Lizzy Baecht and also, his sisters Jackie (Larry) Atkinson and Karen (Val) Isle and niece Brandy Mitchell and nephew Brad Wacaster.
