Gerald Jacob Koster, (Jerry),65, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2015, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls. He was born in Idaho Falls, ID, February 16, 1950, the beloved son of Jacob Peter and Martha Lavon Thornblad Koster. He was raised on a small Farm south of Idaho Falls where he lived for 60 of his 65 years. Jerry attended Shelley schools graduating from Shelley High School in l968. He enlisted in the United States Army serving his country in Germany from l969 thru l971 where he qualified as a member of the U.S. Army Rifle Team. Upon return from enlisted service he began employment with the Idaho Falls Post Office where he served as a city mail carrier for 35 years retiring March 5, 2005. On July 26, 1975 he married Linda Cutler Waters in Idaho Falls. They built a new home on the farm south of Idaho Falls next to his parents. This is where Jerry continued to live and raise his family for the remainder of his life. Jerry and Linda had one son, Jason, and later divorced. On December 28, 1984 he married Donna Phillips Stewart in Coltman, ID and became the step-father to Shanna, Devin and Shelli Stewart. Jerry and Donna had another son together in 1986, Jeffrey Scott. Jerry was a perfectionist throughout his life which he demonstrated through is work, his home and his beautiful yard. A devoted family man he took care of his mother in her later years. His family enjoyed many trips to the mountains of Idaho and Montana, fishing, camping and hunting. He especially enjoyed catching the big ones at Clark Canyon Reservoir in Montana and the highlight of every year was the annual muzzle loader hunt in the Spencer area of Idaho. Jerry was very proud of his family and in recent years was devoted to his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Donna. Children Jason Koster (Megan) of Boise, ID. Jeffrey Koster (Audree) of Idaho Falls. Devin Stewart of Idaho Falls, Shanna Stewart of Idaho Falls, and Shelli Stewart of Boise, ID Five grandchildren and one great grand child. He was especially thrilled to learn last month that Jason and Megan were expecting their first child and looked forward to that arrival in August. He is also survived by his sister Kathy (Warren) Simon of Idaho Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents. Another sister, Karleen Grasmick, of Boise also preceded him in death approximately 15 hours earlier on the same day April 2, 2015. Graveside services are scheduled for Tuesday, April 7, at 12:00 noon at Taylor Cemetery south of Idaho Falls. The family will gather at Buck Miller Hann Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. before proceeding to the cemetery. The family will also meet with friends and family Monday evening, April 6 from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Military rites at the cemetery will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team.
