Greg was born in Ontario, OR to George and Suzanne Walker on April 16, 1970. He attended school in Emmett, ID; grades K-12. Greg graduated from Emmett High School in May of 1988. On June 7th, 1988 he began his four years of military service with the United States Navy. Greg was assigned to serve on the Battleship USS Iowa (BB 61). On April 19, 1989 an explosion in the center gun room killed 47 of the turrets crewmen; a day that Greg never forgot. He then finished his service on the USS Kennedy. Every April 19th to this very year, Greg paused, reflected and shed a few tears for both the living and departed fellow Sailors. On June 6th, 1992 Greg ended his service with the U.S. Navy. During his service with the Navy, Greg was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, and a Meritorious Unit Commendation. After his service with the U.S. Navy, Greg was hired by Boise Cascade at the Emmett Saw Mill. He was employed by Boise Cascade for seven years.
On Jan. 4th, 1999 Greg began his career with the Oregon State Police. He took great pride in his service with the Oregon State Police. During his 17 years of service, Greg developed a strong passion for training and mentoring other members of the Department. This passion inspired him to become a Field Training Officer so he could be directly involved in the training of new Recruits. Greg also took great pride in the safe operation of emergency vehicles. Greg applied to be an Emergency Vehicle Operations Course Instructor so he could teach new Recruits and Troopers how to operate a patrol vehicle in emergency situations. He was also an instructor for the Oregon State Police Criminal Apprehension through Patrol Enforcement (CAPE). While on patrol, Greg was very devoted to arresting impaired drivers. In 2004, he attended and graduated from Drug Recognition Expert School. This enhanced training allowed Greg to assist many surrounding law enforcement agencies with evaluations on drug impaired drivers. In 2012, he applied for and was promoted to Oregon State Police K-9 program and was assigned his Drug Detection K-9 (Thunder). Greg and Thunder were very successful in the apprehension of criminals and conducted multiple drug seizures. Greg took pride in meeting every standard that the Oregon State Police required to be a successful Trooper: Pride, Loyalty, and Dedication. In 2001 Greg met and fell in love with Julie Rodriguez-Walker who he married in 2006. He was an avid outdoorsman; Big Game Hunting, water fowl and upland game birds were his favorites. Greg also enjoyed taking his children fishing and on camping trips. Greg enjoyed anything having to do with the outdoors. The outdoors brought great love to Greg's heart as much as his children did. Greg's charm made a lasting impression on everyone he met. This charm was only surpassed by the size of his heart. His energy, kindness and appreciation for life are what his friends and family will remember most. Greg will forever be loved by those of us that he left behind. He will also be missed by the many friends he touched that we now consider family. We will all miss the joy and love that Greg brought into our lives. We couldn't be more proud of the son, grandson, brother, cousin, father, uncle, nephew and friend he was to us. Greg is survived by his loving wife, Julie Rodriguez-Walker; his children, Dana Marie Walker (24), Christopher Alan Walker (16), Lucia Arlene Walker (9), and Victoria Kennedy Walker (8); his father and step-mother, George and Linda Walker; his mother, Suzanne Debban; his brother, Tony Walker and his children, Maigan, David, Kourtney and Gretchen; his sister and brother-in-law, Teresa and Rob Crawford; and his grandmother, Arlene Debban.
