Harold Raymond Herndon

Harold Raymond Herndon, 89 of Idaho Falls died Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at his home in Idaho Falls. He was born on May 18, 1924, in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado, the son of Ora Lester and Edith Mildred Vroman Herndon. Harold spent his earlier years in Shelley graduating from Shelley High School in 1942. After graduation he moved to Kansas where he worked in the Sunflower Ordinance Plant until joining the United States Navy in December of 1943. Harold served in the U.S. Navy as a pilot during WWII earning the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He met and married Ima Pardue until her death in 1976. He met and married the love of his life Evelyn Weeda on April 8, 1978. Harold retired from the U.S. Navy in 1945 and from the U.S. Navy Reserves in 1964. He worked as a Claim Adjuster for Allstate Insurance Company until his retirement in 1986. After Harold's retirement from Allstate he drove school bus for the Valley Christian High School until he retired in 1994. Harold was a member of the Gethsemane Baptist Church and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Herndon of Idaho Falls; a daughter, Diana (Larry) Grumman of Buena Park, California; six sons, John (Cheryl) De Koekkoek of Boise, James (Tammi) De Koekkoek of Idaho Falls, Timothy (Patti) de Koekkoek of Lakewood, California, Steven De Koekkoek of Leota, Minnesota, Harold (Amber) Herndon of Lakewood, California, and Raymond (Alisha) Herndon of Idaho Falls; fifteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Alvin and Cloyd, and a sister Ellen.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 16, 2013, at the Gethsemane Baptist Church, 2345 W. Broadway in Idaho Falls, with Pastor Matthew Swenson, officiating. Burial will follow at the New Sweden Cemetery in Idaho Falls. A viewing for family and friends will be held at the church one hour prior to the services on Monday. Arrangements are under the direction of Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home in Idaho Falls.
