Harold Wilbur Soper, 89, of Ontario, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012 at St. Alphonsus Medical Center - Ontario. Private family services will be held. Harold was born July 20, 1923 in Edgemont, SD. At a young age his family moved to Wyoming to farm and then to Vale, OR in 1936. He moved to Canby, CA in 1941 and worked at a sawmill then for the forest service. He returned to Vale where he met and married Doris Jean Shiery on Nov. 29, 1945. They spent the next 66 years together. They farmed for a while and then moved to Burns, OR where he worked as a millwright for 18 years. Wanting to retire in the Ontario area they moved back and he worked in construction for the next 12 years; retiring in 1985. Harold loved fishing, camping and anything outdoors but most of all he loved spending time with his family. Harold is survived by his daughter, Vicki Cunningham (Tom); four sons, Dan Soper (Diane), Jim Soper (Lani), Ricky Soper (Carlynn), and Ralph Soper; 17 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; three sisters and a brother. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Soper; a grandson, Brett Burton; his parents, Stephen and Charity Soper; three brothers and four sisters.
