Harry Joseph Taylor, 89, passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center after a courageous battle with many heart conditions and procedures.
Harry was born March 2, 1928 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Hannibal Dewey Taylor and Blanche Walston Taylor. He was raised in the Riverdale area. He attended schools in Shelley until the age of 16, when he left home, bought his own truck and started driving short and long haul for various companies.
He married Alene Bradshaw on December 7, 1946 in Dillon, Montana. They resided in Shelley and together they had 6 children; they later divorced. He obtained his GED in September of 1956. Harry left the trucking business and began driving bus for the AEC, now known as the INL, in January 1957. He drove over 2 million accident free miles in 32 years of driving.
On September 12, 1977, he married Beverly (BJ) Lange in Jackson, Wyoming. BJ brought 3 children into this union. They resided in Shelley. After retirement they moved to Palisades, Idaho. He served as President of the Swan Valley Snow Roamers and as President of Park Lane Home Owners Association in Palisades, ID.
Harry was an accomplished musician, playing the organ and the accordion. He learned how to play music "by ear", he never read sheet music. He played in his own band, The Westerners, playing at local establishments and weddings.
He enjoyed snowmobiling and traveling. Harry also loved puttering on cars, trucks or anything with a motor. The family called him their energizer bunny, as he always managed to pull through the many heart problems and procedures he had, never complaining and always managing a smile.
Harry is survived by his children: Varcel (Amy) Taylor of Osgood, Idaho, Sandy (Asael ) Sievers of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Rich (Rose) Taylor of Surprise, Arizona and Kevin (Fran Moran) Taylor of Kent, Washington; daughter-in-law Connie Taylor of Idaho Falls, Idaho; stepchildren Wendy Jo Wilhite, of Old Appleton, Missouri and Wanda Joy (Kim Carlson) Smith of Menan, Idaho; 24 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, BJ Taylor, daughter Dana Albert, son Greg Taylor, daughter-in-law Debbie Taylor, stepson Kip Jerry Lange, stepson-in-law Gary Smith.
A visitation will be held Monday, October 30th from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Buck Miller Hann Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at Fielding Memorial Cemetery at 2:00 PM.
The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude for the compassionate care given to our Dad by EIRMC, Encompass Home Health, Promontory Point and Life Care Center. Also, a very special thank you to the highly skilled doctors and nurses who tried so hard to give our Dad the best chance they could, particularly Dr. Patrick Gorman, Dr. Paul Gerlach, Dr. John Chambers, Amber Kent (RN valve clinic coordinator) and Dr. William Wilson.
