Helen Josephine Myhr died peacefully in her sleep of natural causes at Lincoln Court, Idaho Falls in the early morning hours of August 28, 2013.
Helen was born September 1, 1924 to Ole and Hulda Skaar. She was raised in Idaho Falls and attended Idaho Falls High. Upon graduation she attended Denver Women's College before becoming a bookkeeper for Bellamy Shoes. She married Ivar Myhr on May 4, 1947, and, several years after the birth of their daughter Barbara in 1952, chose to become a homemaker and active volunteer with several organizations. Helen was a member of the Sons of Norway, a 50-year member of the Henrietta Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and an enthusiastic member of the Happy Stitchers. She enjoyed traveling, especially to visit her family in Canada; and when Ivar retired spent many winter getaways with her husband and sister in Arizona. She took up golfing and watching basketball while in Arizona and continued to follow her favorite teams throughout the rest of her life.
Helen is survived by her daughter Barbara and son-in-law Fred, sister Florence, grand-daughter Heather, step-son David, and many extended family members and good friends. Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Ivar, and siblings Ida, Lillie, Lewis, Albert, Elsie and George.
Helen's life will be celebrated with a memorial service at 10:00 am, September 4, 2013, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church at 455 W. Sunnyside, Idaho Falls, followed by a short graveside service at Fielding Memorial Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the American Lung Association of Idaho, Idaho Youth Ranch, and Habitat for Humanity Idaho Falls.
A Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 455 W. Sunnyside in Idaho Falls , with Pastor Larry Cudmore, officiating.
