Henry (Hank) Martin Niemeier, 90, of Idaho Falls, Idaho passed away peacefully at home Monday, June 6, 2011.
Hank was born in Idaho Falls on May 28, 1921, the son of Martin and Emilie Niemeier. He was raised in New Sweden on the family farm, attended grades 1st thru 8th at Riverdale School in New Sweden and graduated from Shelley High School in 1939. Hank worked on the family farm and was a pitcher in the Professional Baseball Minor leagues for the Twin Falls Cowboys until he was drafted into the Army in 1944. He met Maxine Niessen at Walther League in 1943 and they were married June 9th, 1945.
Henry and Maxine raised five children on a farm in Shelley. He was a hard-working farmer and family man who never met a stranger, had an infectious smile and a friendly word for all. Following his career in farming, he worked for GPOD of Idaho for 15 years as a Potato Buyer.
Hank was an original founder and a 53 year member of the American Legion Post 93 in Shelley and a 40 year member of the Shelley Lions Club Chapter.
Henry is survived by his wife Maxine, children and their spouses Theresa, (Buddy)Walters, Colleyville, TX, Paul, Las Vegas, NV, Todd, (Suzanne), Marietta GA, Scott, (Cindy), Spokane, WA, Daughter-in-Law Carla Niemeier, Idaho Falls, ID, and 5 grandchildren, Lindsay, Ryan, Austin, Matthew and Hunter.
He was preceded in death by his eldest son Chris, Parents, Martin and Emilie Niemeier, Brothers, Arthur, Joe, and Herman, and Sister Olga.
Henry was a member at St. John Lutheran Church in Idaho Falls his entire life. He enjoyed baseball, golf, bowling and competitive pool. He was an avid fan of the Utah Jazz and St. Louis Cardinals.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 13, 2011, at St. John Lutheran Church, 290 7th Street in Idaho Falls, with Pastor Jerry Reinke, officiating. Burial will follow in the Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery in Idaho Falls. A viewing for family and friends will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th Street in Idaho Falls, and at the church one hour prior to the service on Monday. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions made in Henry's honor to the American Legion, Post 93 Building Fund, c/o Al Arnold, Idaho Falls, Idaho 83401.
