Ida Ruth Barnes Whitaker, 90, of Twin Falls, Idaho went home to her Lord on Sunday, October 9, 2011 after a short stay at Bridgeview Estates.
Ida was born in Castleford, Idaho on January 16, 1921 the daughter of Fred and Ruth Pinkston. She graduated as valedictorian from Castleford High School in 1939 and married Howard Barnes in October of that same year. To this union two children were born, Remy and Keith. They famed in the Castleford area until Howards death in 1971.
Fulfilling her longtime desire to be a nurse, she graduated as an L.P.N. in 1954. She worked at Magic Valley Memorial Hospital, then in private duty before retiring as the office nurse for Dr. W.H. Kramer in 1985.
In 1984 she married E.J. "Ted" Whitaker and moved to Twin Falls.
At the time of her death Ida was a member of the Twin Falls First Baptist Church and was active in the Joy Circle. Prior to that she was a 50-year member of the Castleford First Baptist Church where she served in numerous ministries.
Ida loved gardening, especially growing iris and roses. She was an accomplished cook who prepared delicious dinners for family and friends. She and Ted enjoyed their travels in the US from coast to coast and to Canada and Alaska
In addition to Howard, Ida was also preceded in death by her husband Ted and her brothers; Joe, Calvin, Ernest and Tom Pinkston and two sisters; Anna Carter and Gladys Base and a step daughter; Judy Craig.
She is survived by her daughter; Remy (John) Wilcox of Milton Freewater, Oregon, Son; Keith (Judy) Barnes (Keith passed away Monday, October 10, 2011) of Castleford. Ted's children; Warren (Kim) Robertson of Boise, Idaho, Wade (Donna) Whitaker of Richardson, Texas and Jolynn Brown of Boise, Idaho. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; Marcus (Karen) Wilcox, Michael Wilcox, Karen (Pat) Carman, Darren Barnes, Randall (Misty) Barnes and Willie (Brandi) Barnes and Stephanie (John) Knutson and eleven great grandchildren.
A viewing for Idaho will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, October 16, 2011 at White Mortuary "Chapel by the Park". A celebration of Ida's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 17, 2011 at Twin Falls First Baptist Church. Private family burial will be in West End Cemetery, Buhl, Idaho. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ida's name may be made to Idaho Youth Ranch or to the Twin Falls First Baptist Church.
