Idabel Dare Ness, 83, of Kirkland, WA passed away on April 12, 2014. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, April 21st at the First Baptist Church, New Plymouth. Burial will follow at Park View Cemetery, New Plymouth. Local arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. Condolences may be made to Idabel's family at www.shaffer-jensenchapel.com. Idabel was born July 7, 1930 in Sheridan, MO to Alvin and Fern Pankau. She with her two sisters and mother lived in Rush Center, KS and endured the dust bowl days. At age 6, her mother brought them all to New Plymouth, ID. There, during her High School years, she fell in love with her next door neighbor, Duane Ness and they married at the New Plymouth Baptist Church, Dec. 25, 1949 in New Plymouth, ID after Duane returned from WWII service with the Army Air Corps. During her formative years in school, she developed an interest in many facets of art which lasted throughout her entire lifetime as indicated by the countless fine paintings that adorn the homes in any extended area. She also took up quilting and finished many beautiful quilts for friends and family.
Idabel first worked in a Department Store and then as a Telephone Operator, to support Duane in earning his college degree. After his graduation, they moved to Nampa, ID, where he was employed at KFXD, as a local radio personality. Their first child, Mark, was born there. Later they acquired an 80 acre homestead in the Columbia Basin Irrigation project by the Bureau of Reclamation. It was here that Idabel withstood the trials and tribulations of a "Homesteading Pioneer", living in a self-built 3 room home without running water or indoor plumbing. It was at this time that their daughter, Jamie, was born. Duane was then employed by the Bell Telephone Company in Ephrata, WA and was later promoted to management, which involved a move to Seattle and then eventually to Kirkland, WA where she spent the rest of her life. As the rock and foundation of the family, she courageously fought breast cancer including multiple lifesaving operations over the last 20 years. To say she was selfless throughout her sickness would be a vast understatement. She loved visiting New Plymouth which was always HOME to her, where she yearly visited on Memorial Day to help decorate her loved ones graves, and this will serve as her final trip. She was always a very devoted wife and mother, grandmother and great grandmother. The most recent great grandchild was born just the day before she left us. Idabel will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her. Preceding her in death were her parents and one sister, Roena. She is survived by her husband Duane, son Mark and daughter Jamie, grandchildren: Carley, Danielle, Shaina, Tara and great grandchildren: Declan, Harper, and Taylor and by one sister Janie and numerous nieces and nephews.
