Irene Vivian Bowhay

Irene Vivian Bowhay, 98, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at Good Samaritan Society Idaho Falls Village in Idaho Falls. She was born on July 23, 1915 in Spencer, Idaho, to William Glen & Anna E. Smith Haight. She attended elementary schools in Idaho and Oregon and high school in Heyburn, Idaho. She married Cecil Marsena Cannon on October 3, 1932 and they lived in Nevada, Idaho, Oregon and Utah. Born to them were five children, Jim, Bill, Vivian, Edith and Earl. She later married Bill B. Bowhay on June 7, 1954. They lived in the Lost River Valley and later moved to the Little Lost River Valley. They then moved to Dubois and had one son Jerry. Irene worked as a waitress, and cook, she worked on farms during spud harvest, and was a letter carrier for Spencer, Kilgore, and the Sheep Station for twenty-two years. She worked hard all her life supporting her family. She loved volunteering, crocheting and quilting for hospital benefits and helping with meals at funerals. She was a member of the Lost Rivers Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and Lily Rebekah Lodge. Her hobbies were quilting, crocheting and sewing. She could always be counted to assist her family, friends and the elderly. Survivors include her sons, Jim (Sheila) Cannon of Yakama, Washington, Earl (Karla) Cannon of Ammon, Idaho, and Jerry (Leisa) Bowhay of Darlington, Idaho; sister, Dorothy Wortley of Pocatello, Idaho; daughter-in-law, Thelma Cannon of Idaho Falls; twenty-one grandchildren, fifty-six great grandchildren, and fifty-six great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Anna Haight; husbands, Cecil Cannon and Bill Bowhay; son, Bill Cannon; daughters, Vivian Cannon and Edith Hogan; brothers, Charles Haight and Lynn Haight; sisters, Ethel Lords and Josephine Holden; and one grandson, David Aaron Stewart. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 20, 2014, at the Community Baptist Church in Dubois, with Pastor John Lovegrove, officiating. A viewing for family and friends will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow in the Dubois Cemetery.
