J. Robb Brady, 92, died Monday, September 19, 2011, in Idaho Falls.
He was born August 13, 1919, in Caney, Kansas, to James Robb and Mary Frances Murphy Brady, the youngest of five children. His siblings were James M. "Jim" Brady, Roseanna Brady Keller, Mary Jo Brady and G.J.H. "Gov" Brady. His mother died when he was six months old and his father died when he was six years old. Robb received a bachelor of arts degree from Notre Dame University and did a year of post-graduate work at the University of Washington. In 1941, he began working at the Post Register in Idaho Falls as a sports reporter. He eventually became managing editor and was publisher of this family-owned newspaper from 1977 to 1988. In addition to journalism, Robb had a passion for conservation and charitable works. He believed strongly in giving back to the community that had supported him all his life and quietly went about doing good. He was a member of the Idaho Falls Rotary Club and his affiliations included the Idaho Centennial Committee, the Idaho Conservation League and the Nature Conservancy. He was instrumental in establishing the Haven Temporary Shelter for homeless families in Idaho Falls.
He enjoyed skiing, tennis, rollerblading, playing bridge and hiking in the wilderness with his friends and family. Survivors include his sons, Patrick J. Brady of Idaho Falls and Robert F. Brady of Los Angeles. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 69 years, Rose Poitevin Brady.
