Jack E. Crose, 75, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2013 of complications related to multiple system atrophy. He was under the care of Aspen Home Health and Hospice.
Jack was born in Decatur, Illinois to Helen and Bob Crose. He attended school in Decatur and graduated from Decatur High in 1956, where he ran track. Following high school, Jack entered the United States Navy Nuclear Program and was a plank-owner on the USS Longbeach commissioned in September of 1961.
Jack married his sweetheart Irene Marie Chabot on July 28, 1962 in Weymouth, Massachusetts. They moved to Idaho Falls and Jack spent 39 years working at Argonne National Laboratory initially as an EBR-II reactor plant operator. After earning his B.S. Degree from Idaho State University in night school, he transferred to Operations staff for the remainder of his career there.
Jack was an accomplished bowler participating in many scratch leagues over the years. Those who knew him will remember the many years he spent as an ABC bowling coach. His true calling was golf and Jack was a fixture for Argonne golfers - spending many seasons organizing the employee league, tournaments, and generally discussing every shot and match point scored. He was instrumental in helping all that would listen with their swings and approach to the game. His finest hours playing golf were breaking 80 once (Sandcreek, 78) and winning his flight in the 1998 Russ Freeman Memorial. Jack loved to tell jokes and we all are still trying to figure out whether any of them were funny or not. He also was known as the "Doughnut Man" by the bakery ladies at Albertson's as he never met a doughnut he didn't like.
He is survived by his wife, Irene; their children Rob (Dayna) Crose of Idaho Falls, Robin (Eric) Papaioannou of Idaho Falls and their five grandchildren (Cassie, TJ, Carli, Josh, and Halle).
He was preceded in death by his mother Helen and his father Bob.
