Jack Wendel Newhard

August 18, 1937 — July 21, 2015

Jack was born on August 18, 1937, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Harry Newhard Jr. and Verda Bushnell Newhard. He had an avid interest in mathematics and science and excelled in both. He attended Northwestern University and graduated in 1959. He then moved to Idaho Falls to pursue employment at INEL. He met Karlyne Montague in early 1962 and they married that September. His career took them to California in 1965 and to New York State in 1992. When he retired in 2000 they returned to Idaho Falls. He was a member of the First Christian Church. He loved his family, friends and church. He enjoyed travelling, especially through Yellowstone and Grand Teton. Other interests were playing clarinet, listening to big band music, and old movies. He also loved playing pool, backpacking when he was young, and most of all fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Aunt Helen Newhard, and wife Karlyne. He is survived by his sister Nancy Newhard Ray, nephews Scott and Blake Melton, and niece Beth Melton, all living on the east coast. He is also survived by his daughter Shanna Christensen (Rick), grandson Justin Karinen (Holli), Mathew Karinen, granddaughter Sarah O'Keefe, and four great-grandsons. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at First Christian Church, 1800 12th Street in Idaho Falls. Online condolences may be left at www.buckmillerhann.com. The family would like to thank Hands of Hope Hospice for their help and compassion. Donations may be made to First Christian Church, 1800 12th Street, Idaho Falls, ID.Jack Wendel Newhard, 77, of Idaho Falls, passed away comfortably at home surrounded by family and close friends on July 21, 2015. He had been under the care of Hands of Hope Hospice.
