Jacob Leroy "Roy" Kendall, 92, of Ontario, passed away peacefully at his residence in Dorian Place on Thursday, April 23, 2015. Roy was a wonderful man who was loved greatly by his family, friends and church family. Roy loved Jesus and had been a Christian his entire life.
Roy was born on Sept. 21, 1922 in Emporia, KS to William and Iva (Dowell) Kendall. As a teenager his family moved to the Ontario area; even though in later years he lived in other places, he always ended up back here. Roy joined the Navy and served his country in North Africa during WWII. While stationed back east he met the love of his life, Edna Mae Strong. They were married for 68 years before she went to be with Jesus in December of 2013.
Roy and Edna had four children and they spent their life involved in their church and their children's youth groups. Their home was filled with music and laughter and all were welcomed.
Of all the things Roy did (Navy Seabee, pilot, weigh master, etc.) none was as important as being a husband and father. He was proud of what all his children did. Later as the grandchildren came (and there were many!) he would look at the large group and say "You know... I started all of this" and would shine with pride.
Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Edna; his brothers, Earle Kendall and Keith Kendall. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Dick Sorenson, Pam and Ralph Pearson, Patti and Kenneth Dollar; son and daughter-in-law, Dick and Sharry Kendall; as well as countless grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Roy will be missed more than words can express but we rejoice in the truth that he is in the arms of Jesus, for that is the Good News of the gospel for which he lived.
Services will be held in his honor at 2 p.m., Friday, May 1st at the River of Life Christian Center, Payette. Private family interment with Military Honors was held at Riverside Cemetery, Payette. Arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. Condolences may be made to Roy's family at www.shaffer-jensenchapel.com.
