James William Long

February 14, 1983 — August 19, 2018

James William Long (Jimmy Joe) age 35, was born February 14,1983, and passed away on Sunday, August
19, 2018, of liver failure due to alcohol addiction. He is survived by his only beautiful daughter, Sadie Nicole
Long, his parents, Paul E and Sherri Long, his brother Paul J Long, sisters Jennifer Bottles, Carrie Buist
(Derrick), Jessica Stewart Pierce (Justin), grandparent Bonnie Holmquist (Max) and many aunts, uncles
and cousins. He was preceded in death by his sister Shilo Long. James never wanted to be defined only by
his addiction and mistakes, he was so much more than that. James was a handsome, intelligent man of Idaho Falls who fell into its grip. It can happen to anyone. He was funny and outspoken but would do anything for anyone and always lit up the room with his smile and sense of humor even while struggling with his demons. He loved his family deeply and played with his nieces and nephews anytime he could. He loved to laugh and tried every way he could to make others smile. Even as he struggled through life, he was able to earn his GED. He enjoyed having campfires, fishing, and woodworking. James was always fascinated with taking
items apart such as controllers and computers, then putting them back together. He always loved spending
time with his sisters and brother, and did everything he could to help and better their lives. James believed
strongly in second chances, maybe because he craved another chance for himself. He wasn't very open
about his struggles and now is not the time to change that. James wanted to live. He had dreams of a future
career, a family of his own, and fought hard all the way until the end, one day away from being able to
recover, but couldn't break the chains of his demons. He was loved by his family and tried every way they
could to get him out of his addiction. They enjoyed every single minute they had with him, from the day
he was born to the day we were all able to talk to him again in the hospital. James was still able to make
the room laugh and smile and showed genuine love and care. His family is forever thankful to have that very
last moment to be one of the best. James will be truly missed. There will be a family gathering at a later date. Arrangements made under the direction of Buck Miller Hann Funeral home, Idaho Falls, Idaho. Online condolences can be left at www.buckmillerhann.com
