Janet Mary Nelson Larsen, age 82, passed away in Idaho Falls, Idaho on June 13, 2011 with the strength, dignity and compassion that made her the special person that she was in life.
She was a happy, caring, and compassionate person who always looked on the bright side of things. She is remembered for her laughter, her great love for her family, and for her enjoyment of the natural world around her. She loved to be surrounded by family and the family loved to be around her.
Her inner strength and dignity shone through in how she dealt with the stroke and cancer that struck her in the last years of her life, still laughing, never complaining and always caring about others first.
Janet was born December 5, 1928 in Homer, Nebraska to David and Zora Nelson. She grew up on the family farm and attended a one-room school. She went on to attend Wayne State Teacher College from 1946-1947; taught elementary school on the Winnebago Indian Reservation in 1949; then attended University of Nebraska from 1950-1951 where she received her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and met her future husband, Larry Larsen.
Janet and Larry married September 16, 1951 in Homer Nebraska. They lived briefly in several eastern cities where Janet taught school and Larry was with the GE training program. They moved to Kansas City, Mo in 1954; Brigham City, Utah in 1961, and then to Idaho Falls in 1962.
The First Presbyterian Church in Idaho Falls was also a big part of her life. Her faith was important to her, and she had strong friendships there. She also enjoyed hiking, skiing, reading and caring for her family. The cabin that she and Larry built hosted many wonderful family reunions and provided many memories for the children and grandchildren.
Janet is survived by her husband Larry of 59 years; her children: Karla (Rick) Albano of Golden Colorado; Diane (Joe) Ewing of Littleton, Colorado; Don (Helen Phillips) of Juneau, Alaska; Kristine (Gregg) Losinski and Eric (Anna) Larsen of Idaho Falls ; 10 grandchildren; Brother- Neal Nelson, Sisters- Kay (Ron)Swansen and Virginia (Walt) Goodbrod.
