Janice Marie Keller Walstrom 89, of Idaho Falls passed away peacefully May 8, 2012 at Eastern Idaho Medical Center from cancer. She was born June 9, 1922 to Frank and Anna Keller in the Riverdale/New Sweden area. She was the sixth of nine children. They were a tight-knit family and remained close and enjoyed playing cards their entire life. Janice attended Riverdale and Holy Rosary Schools and after graduating from Shelley High School in 1941, she attended beauty school and became a licensed cosmetologist. On February 5, 1947, she married Pete Walstrom. They moved to Small, Idaho and farmed from 1950 to 1953. They then returned back to the family farm on Sunnyside Road and continued farming until Pete's death. After selling the family farm she moved into a townhouse near the family farm and resided there until her passing. She lived a quite life as a devoted farm wife helping her husband farm and raise livestock.
Although Janice enjoyed friends and family gatherings, she considered herself socially shy. After Pete passed away in 1976, she found great comfort in the company of her brothers and
sisters. In later year Janice and her sisters Virginia and Joan were lovingly known as the "Golden Girls". Janice's home was always the gathering place for coffee and her homemade pies. She also
enjoyed the holidays with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mom lived through many trials in her life including her battle with cancer. Through all of this, she remained faithful in the Catholic Church. Enduring her challenges, she never complained
and always kept her smile. She was the strength of our family and always found the good
in everyone. Janice is survived by her daughters; Jeannie (Rod) Fuger, and Bonnie (Mark) Davis, both of Idaho Falls, Ilene (Brian) Harrell of Howe, Daughter-in-law Diane Walstrom, son-in-law Michael Rhoads, sisters Virginia Steinke, and Joan Eckersell, 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years; daughter Annette Rhoads, son Victor; four brothers and two sisters. The Family would like to thank her long time physician Dr. Margaret Wagner. In lieu of flowers the family request contributions to the American Cancer Society 2676 Vista Ave. Boise, Idaho 83705-4155. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday May 12, 2012, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, on the corner of 9th and Lee in Idaho Falls, with Father Raul Covarrubias, celebrant.
