- Jay Bruce Mincher, 81, husband of Connie Martha Mincher for fifty-seven years, left this world on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at his home in Idaho Falls. Although he was a dedicated outdoorsman, Connie was the dear of his life. They met in Rapid City, South Dakota, while he was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, in which he served from 1953 - 1961 during the Korean War. He was born on April 21, 1933, at Halfmoon, New York, to George James and Loise Klaiber Mincher. He grew up hunting and fishing in the Adirondacks. He married Connie Petersen on January 26, 1957, at the Baptist Church in Rapid City, South Dakota. They returned home to New York where he worked as a transportation supervisor at Shenendehowa School, until his retirement. He and Connie moved to Idaho Falls in 1994. There, he enjoyed deer, antelope and moose hunting, and floating the South Fork. Jay also enjoyed doing volunteer work for the Idaho Fish and Game, where he made many friends in the department. He also had many friends in his congregation at St. John's Lutheran Church, where he also did volunteer work. Spending time with his son and daughter and their families was especially important to him. He will be greatly missed by his family, who are comforted by the knowledge that he is not gone forever, merely gone before. Survivors include his wife, Connie Mincher of Idaho Falls; son, Bruce Mincher of Idaho Falls; daughter, Barbara (Randy) Ernst of Meridian; Brother Albert Mincher; sisters, Ida Kniese of Halfmoon, New York, and Carol Fountaine of Ballston Spa, New York; and six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Louise Mincher, and his brother, George Mincher. A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, November 14, 2014, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 290 7th Street in Idaho Falls. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at www.lls.org.
