J.D. Raaz

JD was born in Renton, Washington on November 12, 1957 to her parents Mary May Thompson (Keeney) and Norman E. Thompson. She learned to love the northwest, living near the great forests of Washington. As a teenager she became an accomplished horseman, training and showing horses. In adulthood she became an expert para-legal investigator and developed her keen sense of attention to detail and dogged pursuit of facts. JD and Richard traveled extensively. Prior to their arrival in Idaho, the Raaz's spent five years in the United Kingdom where JD sharpened her extensive gardening skills and learned to love the great sport of English Rugby League Football. It was here that she developed her sharp sense of community involvement which led to her passion for the Idaho Falls Symphony and local food banks. The Raaz's served in many wonderful places, but JD was overwhelmed with Idaho's beauty and grandeur. She spent countless hours in her precious gardens and the glorious Idaho fresh air. She was insatiable in her interests that included politics, gardening, cooking and keeping up with the children and grand-children. She is survived by her husband, Richard, her son Patrick Sandlin of Denver, Colorado, her eldest nephew Andre Thompson of Olympia, Washington, her sister Rose Severson of Port Townsend, Washington, many nephews and nieces and countless friends.

The family will offer a visitation at the Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th Street in Idaho Falls, on Tuesday, March 10, 2015, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., where friends are invited to pay their final respects to JD. A Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 16, 2015, at Fairmount Cemetery, 430 S. Quebec Street in Denver, Colorado. At the families request, please no flowers, due to services in Colorado.
