Joe was born January 11, 1940 in Marthaville, LA to Willie Elmer and Lillie Pearl
(Reeves) Berry. He grew up on a small family farm, the eleventh of twelve children
(eleven boys and one girl.) Throughout childhood, Joe was continually fine-tuning his
skills as a tree climber, swimmer, horseback rider, hunter, fisherman, and explorer. He
excelled in math at school and played high school basketball. Following high school Joe attended Northwestern State College in Natchitoches, LA
where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics. After teaching math in Lake
Charles, LA for three years he accepted a job as a Personnel Administrator for the
Department of Army, as a civilian, at Fort Polk, LA. This change of career took him all
around the world. Places he was stationed include San Antonio, TX, Okinawa, Korea,
Hawaii, and Dougway Proving Grounds, UT. In 1978 Joe quit the Civil Service and began working for the U.S. Forest Service in
Alamogordo, NM. From there he was transferred to Twin Falls, ID where he was the
Personnel Officer for the Sawtooth National Forest for 20 years. While in Dougway Joe was introduced to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints. He was baptized on January 14, 1970 and has served in many church leadership
positions including Bishop of the Twin Falls 5th Ward and a member of the Twin Falls
Idaho Stake presidency. He married Cynthia Hadfield on October 12, 1973 in the Salt Lake Temple and together
they raised their four children in Twin Falls, Idaho. Joe was a gentle, kind man and truly a Southern Gentleman. He had a wonderful sense of
humor and loved to tell stories of his childhood. He was loved by all, and especially
adored by his wife, children, and grandchildren. He will be truly missed. Joe is survived by his wife, Cynthia "Cindy" Hadfield Berry, four children: Alicia (Ben)
Lungren, Patrice (Dave) Brown, Rick (Julie) Berry, and Diana (Legrand) Baker, and 15
