John Gilbert, 60, of Idaho Falls, died Saturday, September29, 2012, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. John was born on January 31, 1952, in Willmar, Minnesota, the son of Stephen Mathew and Shirley Geneva Hansen Gilbert. He attended school in Litchfield, MN. He married Sharon Steele on April 15, 1972, at the First Lutheran Church in Idaho Falls. John was a Bus Driver at the INL for over nineteen years and was an active member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Idaho Falls. John loved his family very deeply and always made sure they were taken care of.
He was very proud of his 2 sons and their accomplishments in life and the men they became. He always hugged them and told them he loved them. He loved a good joke and pulling pranks on everyone. His daughter in law Bridget was the perfect sparring partner, and always seemed to tug at John's heart strings. Wednesday was John and Sharon's date night, everyone that knew them very well knew never to call because that was their time for a special dinner and to watch Survivor. John and his 2 side kicks Riley Bear and Maggie Doodle (chocolate labs) were inseparable and spoiled like no other. John's Hobbies included, perfectionist regarding his yard work, growing roses, wood working, his personal vehicle and bus always had to be kept to a high standard.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon M. Gilbert of Idaho Falls; two sons, Eric M. Gilbert , and his children, Brody, Braden and Sierra of Rigby; and Adam C. (Bridget) Gilbert, and their children Alyssa, Brigham City, UT and Katrina and Emma of Idaho Falls; a sister, Sharon Patricia Gilbert of Litchfield MN; six brothers, Stephen Matthew Gilbert Jr. of Litchfield MN., Eugene Thomas Gilbert of Valley Springs, S.D., Richard Dean Gilbert of Hutchinson MN., Gary Allen Gilbert of Litchfield, MN., and Joel Elmer Gilbert of Litchfield, MN. He was preceded in death by his Father, Stephen M. Gilbert, Mother, Shirley Gilbert. Russell Steele father in law and Mildred Steele mother in law.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 6, 2012, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 455 W. Sunnyside Road in Idaho Falls, with Pastor Larry Cudmore, officiating. A gathering for family and friends will be held from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th Street in Idaho Falls.
