Julia (Puggie) Marie Steiniker, devoted wife, beloved mom, and loving sister, passed away November 21, at the age of 71, after battling leukemia. A memorial service will be held November 28 at 3pm at The Payette United Methodist Church, located at 502 N 11th Street in Payette, Idaho.
Puggie was born Thanksgiving Day, 1939 in Ontario after surviving a car collision with a bull on the way to the hospital from Ironside. She was the youngest of 5 children born to Bud and Hazel Sherman. She graduated from Ontario High School in 1957, after having her sister, Ileana Oakes, as her English teacher. High school was quite special since she met Arden and became engaged her senior year. They were married on August 31, 1957 and made their home in Kirkland, WA. They eventually returned to Payette where they ran Steiniker's Furniture for many years. During the early years of their marriage, Puggie worked for 15 years at 1st Security Bank in Payette.
In 1967, a new adventure in their lives arrived in the form of their daughter, Lori Ann. After trying some other office jobs around Payette, Puggie went back to her specialty as a teller at Western Bank in Ontario, where she retired 24 years later. She was excellence par none in delivering customer service. This was quite obvious by how bank patrons would wait in longer lines just to be waited on by Puggie. She always put service to her customers first, often caring enough to ask about family members or make sure treats were forthcoming for their family pets. After retiring from the bank, Puggie worked part-time at D&B Supply in Ontario, still offering her high standard of service and concern to all that came to her. In 2010 Puggie and Arden were honored to be the Apple Blossom Grand Marshalls in Payette. Puggie enjoyed 54 wonderful years of marriage to Arden, the joys of a devoted daughter Lori, and the love and support of a large family and many wonderful friends and extended family.
She was an excellent example in selfless giving through caretaking of others, opening up her home to family members in need, watching over grandchildren, and delivering care baskets and attention to older folks in the Treasure Valley so they'd know how they were appreciated.
Puggie is survived by her loving husband Arden, her attentive daughter Lori of Payette, and her grandsons. Survivors also include her sister, Helen Atkins, Ontario; sister, Bonnie Vincent of Albany; sister and brother-in-law, Ileana and Donald Oakes, Ironside; brother and sister-in-law Hank and Maureen Sherman of Portland; sister and brother - in-law Iris and Keith Kendall of Melba. Numerous nieces, nephews and other family members and an extended family of daughters, sons, grandsons and friends will continue her legacy of giving. She was preceded in death by her parents Bud and Hazel Sherman of Ontario.
Puggie's last days were spent reminiscing with lots of family and close friends that surrounded her with love and attention. Arden and Lori truly appreciate all the help and assistance from Ileana, Bev, Karen, Nancy, Anna, Jaylene, Jannice and others. A heartfelt thanks also to Bonnie for assisting Puggie so long and for the numerous other family and friends that have supported the family.
