Junior D.P. Furstenau, 92, of Idaho Falls, Idaho died March 21, 2014, in Idaho Falls.
He was born to Paul and Nell Furstenau on Feb. 5, 1922, in Neligh, Nebr. He grew up on his parents' farm in the Neligh area.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army in October 1942. He served in Europe during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was attached to Armored Divisions and spent most of the war on a halftrack. He was discharged at the end of the war.
Junior returned to Nebraska after the war and married Gladys Hild on Dec. 22, 1946. They farmed in northeast Nebraska and later moved to Norfolk, Nebraska, where he settled into a long career as a mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service.
Upon retirement in 1982, Junior and Gladys moved to Idaho Falls. They enjoyed traveling and visiting their children and families. Gladys died in 1997.
He is survived by a daughter, Jeanne of Boise, Idaho; and four sons and their wives, William and Mary Jo of Lewiston, Idaho; Dan and Lori of Idaho Falls; Raymond and Hei Suk of Idaho Falls;, and Ronald and Julie of Colorado Springs, Colorado. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Four of his siblings survive him: Verlon of Tilden, Nebraska; Uen of Neligh, Nebraska; Bud of Mesa, Arizona; and Nona Joan of Denver, Colorado.
A private family service was held earlier this week.
