Kenneth E. Garey
Our husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away December 1, 2010 with his loving wife at his side. Ken was born September 12, 1923 in Appleton City, Missouri to Clarence and Rose Garey, the 8th of 11 children. His father died when he was 9 years old and the family came west and settled in Filer. He attended school in Filer and excelled in sports when he was in high school. After graduating he joined the Navy in 1943 where he served until after the war ended. While serving in the Navy he saw about all of the world. He traveled to South America and spent time in Brazil covering all of the towns on the coast of Brazil. He went from there to Casablanca, Morocco on to England landing in Brussels then London. He then crossed the English Channel for the landing at D day. He crossed the Atlantic Ocean to dry dock in Boston, from there going to South America through the Panama Canal and headed for the Pacific Ocean. First to Hawaii then to the Azores, China and Japan. After being discharged he came back to Filer and began a lifelong career of working for John Deere and Caterpillar.
He married Jeannine Childs and to this union had three children Diane, Rick and Nancy. Seven granddaughters and one grandson, and eighteen great-grandchildren. He was an avid sports fan and loved fishing, hunting and camping with the kids. He will be dearly missed by all of us.
He is survived by his wife, Jeannine, son, Rick and daughters, Diane (Jim) Phillips, Nancy (Bruce) Lutz. His sister, Louise Habel and grandchildren, Lisa (Daryl) Malmquist, Angie (Allen) Casteel, Wendy Freeman, Jamie Thomas, Jennifer (Scott) Haltzen, Lara (Joe) Bartley, Heather (Ryan) Langer and Kyle Garey. He will be in our hearts forever. The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to Visions Home Health and Hospice in Ken's name.
