Dad was born Oct. 6, 1933, in Scottsbluff, NE and was the son of Robert and Elizabeth (Kautz) Nyce. His family lived in Nebraska, Wyoming, and then settled in New Plymouth, ID when he was a freshman in high school. There he met the love of his life JoAnn Fitzsimons. Dad and Mom were married on August 17, 1952, in New Plymouth at St. Aloysius Catholic Church.
Dad was drafted in the Navy in 1954 and served two years. Following his discharge, they moved to Wilmington, CA for five years and then transferred to San Mateo, CA for two more years. In 1963 they moved back to Idaho and opened Stunz Lumber Co. in Ontario, OR with Cal Hutchinson. He then opened Stunz Lumber Co. in Nyssa, OR in 1970 and retired from Stunz Lumber Corporation in 1987, however he served on the Board of Directors until his death. He was recruited to assume management of Payette Valley Co-Op in New Plymouth; working for 10 years until he officially retired. After retirement he worked part-time for Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel for about 13 years; which he enjoyed very much.
The pride and joy of his life were his kids and grandkids. They were blessed with four children; Kerry, Peggy, Mike, and Steve. He was their biggest fan. It didn't matter if it was a school activity or a sporting event he was in the bleachers or in his chair. His greatest love was watching his grandkids at their football, basketball, or baseball games. No matter what the outcome, he was always proud of them. However, if they lost, the officiating was surely questioned.
He also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his many friends. Dad was a great teacher of work ethics by example. He taught his children and grandkids to respect each other and to be best that they can be. Dad was known for his shiny cars and shiny shoes. For many years, he donated his shoe shining for a fund raiser at church; it would always sell for hundreds of dollars. He was also a member of various organizations in Nyssa, Ontario, and Fruitland, donating his time and talents. He donated his time to the Idaho High School Activities Association hosting the State Basketball Tournament and timing for the State Track Meets, which he truly enjoyed.
Dad will always be remembered for the twinkle in his eyes, his kindness, his mischievous smile, and the love he had for his wife, family and friends.
Ken is survived by his wife JoAnn and children; Kerry (Vickie) Nyce, Peggy (Pete) Murphy, Mike (Teri) Nyce, and Steve (Shannon) Nyce. Grandchildren; Gregg and Emilie Nyce, Patrick and Mathew Murphy, Rebecca and Hannah Nyce, Jessica, Taylor, and Colby Nyce. Nieces Karen (Dale) LaCrone, Shirley (Tom) Johnson, and Sandy (Butch) Bosworth. Numerous great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, mother and sister Linda Cantrell.
A special thanks to Trinity Home Care and Resource and Care at Home for their compassion in caring for Dad. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to the Corpus Christi Catholic Church Building Fund, c/o Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, P.O. Box 730, Payette, ID 83661.
