Larry James Siefken

July 11, 1942 — March 28, 2016

Larry James Siefken, 73, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, died Monday, March 28, 2016, in Orlando, Florida, of a ruptured aneurysm. He was born on July 11, 1942, in Columbus, Nebraska, to Arthur Siefken and Clara Johannes Siefken. He grew up on a farm near Columbus and then attended the University of Nebraska where he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in engineering. He began working at the National Reactor Testing Station in 1966, partly because the work was interesting and partly because the fishing was great. He made many friends in Idaho, fished, skied, played golf, hunted ducks, played bridge and Sheepshead, and backpacked. Larry was a serious Bible student and led youth and adult Bible studies. He knew God is active in this world, wants to bless people, and indeed has blessed us through Jesus's death and resurrection. In 1993 he married his wife, Myrtle, and their son, Seth, was born in 1995. After retiring from the Idaho National Laboratory, Larry worked part-time for Innovative Systems Software, continuing to apply computer codes for safety analysis of nuclear power reactors and mentoring engineers from around the world, which he enjoyed. Larry is survived by his wife, Myrtle Siefken, of Idaho Falls, son, Seth Siefken, attending Montana State University, brothers Myron (Mary) Siefken of Texas and Gayle Siefken of Nebraska, sister Doris (Galen) Koepke of Colorado, and mother, Clara Siefken of Colorado. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Siefken. His funeral service will be at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, April 4, 2016, at Hope Lutheran Church, 2071 12th St. in Idaho Falls. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 3, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Buck Miller Hahn Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th St., Idaho Falls, and one hour prior to the funeral service at Hope Lutheran. Interment will be at Fielding Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to The Nature Conservancy (www.nature.org) or The Gideons (www.gideons.org).
