Laura Joy Carney, 85, passed away Thursday, December 9, 2010 at her home in Twin Falls, Idaho. Laura was born December 22, 1924 to Walter W. and Viola I. (Maloney) McCabe in Berger, Idaho. She graduated from Filer High School in 1943 and attended Albion College for one year. She married Clifton Carney on July 3, 1945 in Rudy, Arkansas. They moved to California for Clifton's employment but her heart was in Filer. They returned to the Magic Valley in 1947 to help her mother with the family farm.
Laura worked several jobs besides being a full time mother including Holiday Inn, hoeing beans with her children and sister's family, the bean houses and Twin Falls County Weed Bureau with her sister Margaret. She enjoyed making everyone's favorite pie or cake for their birthday and holidays. She loved trying new recipes she found in the newspaper and magazines, sewing, crocheting, her daily crossword puzzle, raising a large garden to share with her family, canning and making pets of her cows. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially camping and during holidays.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1975, her dad in 1934, her mom in 1965, her son Dean Carney in 1969, her brother Walter (Bud) McCabe in 1984, her sister Gladys Huddleston in 1986, her sister Margaret (Polly) McCoy in 1998, her daughter-in-law Rosemary Carney in 2000 and her great granddaughter Aspyn McGuire in 2007.
Laura is survived by 3 sons and 3 daughters Jerry (Janeal) Carney of Boise, Mark (Sandy) Carney of Jerome, Julie McGuire of Buhl, Richard (Gina) Carney, Carolyn (Gary) Dennis, Martha Tolman of Twin Falls, her sister Shirley McCoy of Castleford, 21 grandchildren; Ryan Carney, Eric Tolman, Kris Carney, Christopher Carney, Jeffory Carney, Lacey McGuire, Ciera Carney, Tay Dennis, Jennifer Quesnell, Nicole Tolman, Bryon Carney, Nic Stowe, Denny Carney all of Twin Falls, KaDee Stone of Buhl, Dustin Carney of Fairfield, Tim Dennis, Shawn Dennis of Nampa, Tyler Carney, Wendy Carney of Boise, Shantell Minges of Idaho Falls and Jodi Carney of Baltimore, MD, and 12 great grandchildren.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at White Mortuary "Chapel by the Park" .
