Lester Bye

MARENGO, INDIANA - Lester Bye, 86 of Marengo, Indiana died Monday, December 3, 2012, at the Easter Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls. He was born on November 27, 1926 at Marengo, Indiana, the son of Joseph and Opal Underhill Bye. Lester spent his earlier yeas in Marengo where he attended school and helped on the family farm until joining the United States Marines Corps at the age of seventeen. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1944 at Louisville, Kentucky. He served in the pacific area and occupation of Japan during WWII as a Corporal Rifle Sharpshooter and received an honorable discharge in 1946 with a Good Conduct Medal at Camp Le Jeume, North Carolina. Lester reenlisted in the United States Army Infantry Division At Camp Cooks, California, as a Carrier Cook during the Korean War and received an honorable discharge in 1950. He reenlisted with the National Guard Reserves form 1950 through 1954. He married Regina Anne Bye on October 16, 1947 in Glendale, California. Lester was a plaster by trade and a member of NNRA. He was baptized as a member of the Catholic Church in Palmdale, California in 1988. Lester was an avid hunter, fisherman and guide in Colorado, who loved the outdoors, camping and playing cards. Dad was a family man who valued his wife, children and grandchildren. His life centered around the family, outdoors and his sense of humor made him who he was. Survivors included his wife, Regina Anne Bye of Idaho Falls; a daughter, Angela L. Bye of Idaho Falls; two sons, Michael Bye of Action, California, and Patrick Bye of Palmdale, California; two brothers Glenn Bye of Wilmington, Illinois, and David Bye of Thayer, Kansas; twelve grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Charles Bye, a brother, Hubert and a sister Ferris Becth. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 7, 2012, at the Christ The King Catholic Church, on the corner of Woodruff and 17th Street in Idaho Falls, with Father Raul Covarrubias, celebrant. Military Rites are under the direction of the Bonneville Veterans Team.LESTER BYE
