Libby M. Whittekiend

She was born August 20, 1913 in Omaha, Nebraska to Joseph and Sophia Stastny. She was raised in Kimberly, Hansen, and Murtaugh, and then moved to Artesian when she married Edgar Swanson in 1931. They moved back to Murtaugh to live on the farm and start their family, where they resided until 1942. Edgar and Libby moved to California and remained there until Edgar's passing in 1970. Libby returned to Idaho to take care of her parents until their passing in 1974. In 1978 Libby married Bill Whittekiend of Kimberly. They lived together in her parents' house until Bill's passing in 1985. In 2003 Libby moved to Twin Falls, until 2005 when her daughter Norma moved from California to be with her. They moved back to Libby's parents' house in Murtaugh, where she passed. Libby was an active member of the Crossroads Methodist Church in Kimberly. She was well known for her crocheted quilts, making homemade jelly for her family, baking raisin bread and kolaches, and her love of all her family. Libby was the oldest of eight siblings, and was the matriarch her family, that has grown to 5 generations. Libby is preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, two brothers, one grandson and one daughter-in-law. She is survived by her three children: Norma Foster of Murtaugh, Ray Swanson of Murtaugh (Oregon) and Doug Swanson of Colorado. She is also survived by 5 siblings, all in the greater Twin Falls Area: Joseph (Helen) Stastny, Vlasta Saunders, Martha Rairigh, Slava Kalisek, and Mike (Ruby) Stastny, as well as 9 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. The viewing will be held at White's Mortuary on Friday, December 20th 2013, from 5:00-7:00PM. Funeral services will be held at Crossroads United Methodist Church in Kimberly on Saturday, December 21st, 2013 at 10:00 AM. Because of Libby's love of animals, in lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to the Twin Falls Humane Society.
