Let me tell you about my mother, if there was a pinochle party starting she was first in line. She enjoyed socializing with the New Plymouth clubs - Ladies Rest-A-While which originated in the 40's by the farmers wives; Priscilla club and the Rebekah's. Lucille was very proud to have served one year as Assembly State Chaplain. In her later years she was active in the New Plymouth Senior Citizens Center. Mom was born in Salina, Kansas August 2, 1916 to Nick and Mabel (Mathews) Vandenberg. She is preceded in death by both parents and her only brother, Kenneth. She is survived by sister-in-law, Emma Vandenberg; niece, Cheryl Moore and nephew, Larry Vandenberg. When mom was 18 months old the family moved to New Plymouth. Mom was always active in the First Baptist Church where she met Walter Gerlach at a youth gathering. They were married there June 30, 1935. We lost Dad at the age of 100 in June 2005, just days before their 70th Anniversary. Dad was a farmer and Mom the helpful farmer's wife.
I am an only daughter and have had my Mom for 75 years, I will miss her. She lost a son-in-law, Ralph Pearcy and grandson, Chris Pearcy in an auto accident in 1978. She is survived by a step-grandaughter, Allena Gabasch, granddaughter, Carmie (Lener) Gousetis; great-granddaughter, TaNelle (Steve) Forgy and children Sheridan, Brice and Rylie; great-grandson, Brandon Harper and friend Julia; acquired great-grandchildren Melissa Gousetis and Adam Gousetis. I added a new son-in-law, Mel Landers in 1980; extending the family to include Mel and Marilee Landers, Craig and Diane Landers, Steve and Laura Landers and son Bode, Stacia McMillion and sons Parker and Calvin. From Dad's siblings mom is survived by Harold Vaughn, Jim Vaughn, Maxine Logan, Mary Sneed and Mabel Gibcomb. I have many people to thank: first the support from friends in New Plymouth that allowed her to live there independently for as long as she did; the staff and friends at Nampa Park Place which were so good to her the last three years; lastly the respectful care she received at Nampa Kindred Care and Rehab; Thanks Everyone! Mom's great love was always pretty shoes; for 50 years her leg problems prevented her from wearing them. Now, Mom the swelling and pain are gone and I know you are walking proudly in a pair of very feminine high heel shoes - go for it! I Love You!
