Lucille Catherine Stolworthy

December 6, 1919 — May 13, 2014

Lucille Catherine (Mais) Stolworthy, 94, passed away peacefully in her Idaho Falls home on May13, 2014 with her family by her side and under the care of Onesource Hospice.
Lucille was born December 6, 1919, to Joseph and Eva (Phillipp) Mais. She was the last baby
baptized in the Holy Rosary Catholic Church on Eastern Avenue on December 14, 1919. Lucille, her parents, two sisters, and brother lived on a small farm outside of Idaho Falls and later moved to town during the depression. She only spoke German, as a child. She learned English when she began 1st grade at Holy Rosary School. She graduated from Idaho Falls High school. After graduation, she worked for the Farm Security Agency (FSA) assisting farmers in getting loans to
begin farming.
Lucille married Lloyd Stolworthy at Holy Rosary Church on September 26, 1940. They had lived in the same neighborhood and dated for two years prior to marriage. Together they moved to a small two bedroom house on a 20 acre irrigated farm with a cold water tap, coal stove, and no bathroom. Lloyd both farmed and raised sheep. Lucille often cooked meals for the hired help, as many as ten people, three meals a day. Both of them worked hard and by the time their five kids were grown, they had built their land ownership to 14,000 acres.
In 1969, Lucille and Lloyd moved from their farm in Firth to Idaho Falls in order to be closer to Holy Rosary School and church. As she had driven her five children eighty miles round trip to school everyday. Lucille was always active in groups at Holy Rosary, serving as president of "Our Lady's Sadality," a young women's church group. In addition, she was very active in the Catholic Women's Association, serving in many capacities and committees. The church gave her a community of friends that have been with her up until her last days. They had so much fun playing cards and going out for meals. Their laughter could be heard throughout the room when they were together. In addition to being closer to church, Lucille loved living in town because it gave her an opportunity to grow a garden reminiscent of a Better Homes and Garden magazine. She especially loved her roses. She also enjoyed sewing, canning, pinochle, photography, painting, quilting for her grandchildren, and any excuse for a party. Lucille also travelled with Lloyd and other family members to all the countries in Europe, as well as Israel, Jordan, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Hawaii, Mexico, Canada, and the Dominican Republic. She always enjoyed her travels and made her last international trip in 2009 at the age of 89. Lucille and Lloyd had five children, Karen Stolworthy, Everett, Washington. Jay (Cindy)
Stolworthy, St George, Utah, Peggy (Dirk Marsden) Stolworthy, Firth, Idaho , daughterinlaw
Brenda Stolworthy, Shelley, Idaho and soninlaw Marvin (Mary Kaye) Bennett , Idaho Falls,
Idaho. Her children have given her 19 grandchildren, 36 greatgrandchildren, and 3
greatgreatgrandchildren. She leaves behind her brother Paul (Doris) Mais, Boise, Idaho and a
sister Bernice Owens, Coeur d Alene, Idaho. Lucille is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lloyd who passed in 1993, her daughter Janet Bennett, son David Stolworthy, sister Vera Ziebarth and four grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Fiday, May 16, 2014, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, on the coroner of 9th and Lee in Idaho Falls, with Father Raul Covarrubias, celebrant. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Idaho Falls. A Rosary will be held Thursday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a viewing from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th Street in Idaho Falls.
