Marcella Margaret Korthals

She was born in December 29, 1923 in White Lake, SD, the third of five children born to John and Susan Hettinger. She was always a help to her mother in the kitchen and when her mother passed away when Marcella was 11, she and her sister took over the duties of cooking and cleaning for the men of her family. She went to boarding school in South Dakota and graduated from White Lake High School in 1941. She went on to Notre Dame College and earned her teaching certificate. She taught for two years, when she met the love of her life, Mason Korthals through her classmate, Mason's brother, Herman. They were married and moved to Idaho in 1947; they had six wonderful kids and lived a full life in Fruitland. When Mason passed away in 1982, she continued to live on her own until the time of her death. Marcella loved bowling in her later years and was on a couple of bowling leagues, she also loved to travel and go on cruises. She loved sports and was an avid Mariners and Seahawks fan. She was a longtime member of Holy Family Catholic Church, now Corpus Christi Catholic Community in Fruitland. She is survived by her children, Linda (Patrick) Bonner of Fruitland, ID, Mary (Alan) Hancock of Yelm, WA, Randy (Julie) Korthals of Fruitland, ID, Patty (Mack) Middleton of Kent, WA, Pam (Bill) Beckwith of Kennesaw, GA, and Mark (Yvonne) Korthals of Payette, ID; her brother-in-law Albert Thiry of White Lake, SD; eleven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Mason, her parents, step-mother, brothers and sister. A viewing will be held from 5 pm - 7 pm, Wednesday, April 30th at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Fruitland with a vigil starting at 7 pm. A funeral service will be held at 2 pm Thursday, May 1st at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Fruitland. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Payette. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Corpus Christi Catholic Community, c/o Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, P.O. Box 730, Payette, ID. She was 90 years old.
