Margaret Patricia Mary Gates Dent, aged 94, died on Saturday, November 30, 2013, in Salmon, Idaho. She was born on November 3, 1919 in Gillingham, England. Margaret's father, Thomas was born in England and her mother, Mary Flaherty, was born in Braddock, Pennsylvania but was raised in Ireland. Margaret was raised and educated in Vancouver, British Columbia Canada. She received her registered nursing degree and radiology technology degree at St. Paul's Hospital School in Vancouver. She moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho at the urging of her friend, Dr. Maurice Heninger, a long time Idaho Falls radiologist. She was employed by Dr. Stanley Sell, managed the radiology department at Riverview Hospital, and worked at Medical Plaza Xray and Teton Radiology. She worked for Dr. Rheim Jones from 1988-94 when she retired at the young age of 75. She loved the work she did and loved helping those in need. Margaret married Jack Dent in 1952 in Idaho Falls. She had five children. Greg (Donna) Dent of Kansas City, Missouri; Larry (Kathleen) Dent of Missoula, Montana; Anne (Jeff) Wornek of Salmon, Idaho and Jeff Dent also of Salmon, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack and son Marty Dent.
She leaves behind grandchildren: Amy Huff, Michael Dent, April Bartlett, Mindy Scalzi, Thomas Caviness, Brandon Caviness, Killian Dent, Jacqueline Dent, Jackie Wornek and great- grandchildren: Hailey, Brock and Makenna Huff; Mya and Syriana Bartlett; Nolan and Ethan Dent; and Aydenn Paschal. Roast beef with Yorkshire pudding were Margaret's specialty dishes and she served them up every Sunday for family dinners. She liked to read and loved to shop, select special presents for family, and keep in touch with family and friends. Dogs, cats, rabbits, turtles, birds and other creatures were lovingly tended by Margaret through the years. Margaret had a great sense of humor and enjoyed current events and pop culture. She loved the Beatles and country western music. Margaret moved to Salmon with her son Jeff in 2006 where she could be closer to her daughter Anne. In December of 2012, she went to live at Discovery Care Center. The wonderful staff became her extended family and provided her with extraordinary care. A celebration of Margaret's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 6, 2013, at Buck Miller Hahn Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th Street in Idaho Falls, with Deacon Wence Rodriquez, celebrant. Burial will follow at Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery in Idaho Falls. A gathering for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family suggest contributions be sent to the Lemhi Humane Society, PO Box 1918, Salmon, ID 83467 or the Discovery Care Center Resident Fund, 600 Shanafelt St, Salmon, ID 83467. We love you Mom and Grandma and we will all miss you very much.
