Margit was born Margit Delight Paulsen, the youngest child of Erling and Mary Paulsen on May 19, 1930 on the Fort Hall Indian Reservation in Idaho. She attended grade school in Wapello and graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1948. Over the years, Margit traveled to Norway on several occasions to visit her family and keep her Norwegian language current. She and Rulon enjoyed their yearly get-aways down South in their 5th wheel trailer.
