Marjory Coleman

On December 19, 2012, Marjory Remington Coleman left this life exactly as she had envisioned; with her husband, children and cherished friends gathered around her. She waited for each of her children to arrive before leaving them, teaching us once again about the love and vigilant care a mother has for each of her own.
Marjory began life August 3, 1934 in Blackfoot, Idaho. She was the third child and second daughter of Charles Afton and Ellen Eliza Remington. Small town life agreed with Marjory, and she was constantly on the go. She loved dancing, music, picnics, movies, school activities and plays; whatever was happening she wanted to be part of it. Most of all, Marge loved people and kept in touch with her four closest high school friends for her entire life. She graduated from South Fremont High School in St. Anthony in 1952.
John R. Coleman fell in love with Marge on the dance floor and, following their marriage on July 17, 1953, they were inseparable for the next fifty-nine years. John was and is the love of her life, and she was always happiest in his company.
After John finished law school in 1957 in Moscow, Idaho, they made their way to Twin Falls where they eventually settled for good on a small hundred acre farm south of town. There they raised three daughters, two sons and grew lots of corn, hay and cattle.
Marjory raised her family on home-cooked meals, loving words, faith and music. Music accompanied every aspect of Coleman family life. It was an inseparable part of church, family trips, housework and school. Marjory even used music to end arguments and teach moral lessons. She was a gifted musician--a pianist and organist--who welcomed a long line of piano students through her doors for over 45 years. She also actively promoted the Twin Falls Music Club, serving in every capacity from Music Festival Chairman to Treasurer to ticket taker.
Of course she played the piano and organ in church, but that was only the beginning of her church service. Second only to her family, her membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was central to her life. She served faithfully in many different church callings ranging from teacher to Relief Society president. She and John worked in both the Boise and Twin Falls temples and served a mission at Martin's Cove, Wyoming. Everywhere she went, Marge added friends to her indispensable people list.
She was a patient perfectionist who never lost her temper. Thus, she was the perfect person to teach three generations of children the arts of cooking, sewing, knitting and canning. Her family cannot count the number of hours she stitched into prom dresses, wedding quilts and baby blankets.
Her orange rolls will never be forgotten, her pies never duplicated, but the greatest legacy she left her family and friends was her warm and generous heart and her faith that we were all deserving of the love she lavished upon us.
She is already greatly missed by those she left behind. She is survived by her husband John R. Coleman, her children and their spouses, Sue Miller and Carson Wong, Kathy Harris and Reed Harris, John A. Coleman and Amy Coleman, Diane Peterson and Layne Peterson and David A. Coleman and Michele Coleman, her sisters Larene Lovell and Katherine Stocks, and twenty-eight living grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Marjory's last battle in life was with cancer. During her last days she grew to love the generous caregivers at Hospice Visions as well as Doctors Joseph Ippilito and Kent Smith. Their tireless care and kindnesses were greatly appreciated by the entire Coleman family.
A viewing will be held Friday, December 28, 2012, from 5 to 8 p.m. at White Mortuary "Chapel by the Park" in Twin Falls. Her funeral service will be held on December 31, 2012, at 11:00am and time to visit with family beginning an hour prior. The funeral will be held at the LDS South Stake Center on the corner of Orchard Drive and Harrison Street South at 541 Orchard Drive, Twin Falls, Idaho and is under the direction of Lance Cox and staff. The family suggests that memorial donations be delivered to White Mortuary for the benefit of the College of Southern Idaho Foundation Music Scholarships or to the Twin Falls Music Club Foundation.
