Marshall Keith Keith Smith

Marshall Keith Smith, 77, of Ontario, passed away peacefully Oct. 1, 2011 at St. Alphonsus Medical Center - Ontario surrounded by family and friends. A viewing will be from 9-ll a.m., Saturday, Oct. 8th at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, 112 N. 9th St., Payette. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at the Bible Baptist Church, 118 S. He was born in Tedders, KY on Oct. 12, 1933. Marshall moved to Crane, OR in 1951 where he went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad. He lived in the Harney County, OR area until 1984 when he moved to Ontario after the railroad closed its service to Burns. Marshall retired from the Union Pacific Railroad in 1995 after 45 years of service. He was a member of the Bible Baptist Church located in downtown Payette. He was a devoted family man that loved the outdoors, spending most of his time either hunting, fishing, or camping. On June 3, 1956, he was married to Hilda Marie Mannen in Hines, OR. On the 6th of July, 1956, he was drafted into the Army and left for boot camp about a month after being married. He served two years in the Army and four years in the National Guard. Marshall is survived by his wife, Marie of Ontario; daughters, Nancy Stampke and husband Roger and Laura Neuschwander and husband Duane all of Burns, OR; sons, Randy of Portland, OR, Steve of Prineville, OR, George and wife Kerri of Boise, ID, and Ron of Meridian, ID. Grandchildren include: Nathan and Amie, Chris, Patrick, and Nolan Stampke, Karla, Julie, and Peter Neuschwander, Adam Smith, Trevor, Ryan, Josie and Eli Smith, Allyson Smith and great grandson Ethan Marshall Stampke. He is also survived by siblings, Kelen Flynn, Kenneth, Beulah Rossberg, Junior, Carolyn Goodman, Charles, Shirley Moore, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Ulysses and Kitty Smith, brother Troy, and sister Phyllis Knight.
