Marvin Wesley Holm

June 11, 1920 — December 14, 2015

On Dec. 14, 2015 Marvin Wesley Holm went to be with his Lord and savior Jesus Christ. He was born June 11, 1920 at Sidney, NE to Swedish immigrants Frank Swan Holm and Victoria (Sampson) Holm; the 10th of 11 children. In 1927 the family moved to Huran, S.D. to farm. His father died in 1930 and Marvin with two sisters tried to continue farming with horses. He quit school at age 16 to help support his mother and two sisters. At age 18 he returned to school to graduate. With the onset of WWII he was drafted in March of 1942. He served in Northern France, Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge), Rhineland and Central Europe until the end of the war. Marvin returned home in November 1945 and began driving tanker truck for Dan Dugan Transport in Sioux Falls, S.D. After a decision that would change the course of his life, he moved to Lincoln, NE. For the next three years he worked at Back to the Bible, an international Christian ministry. During this time he met and married June Beffa in 1952.
Their next move was to Turlock, CA, where son David was born in 1956. He had a farm, a dairy farm, as well as a farming business. He served on the Chatam school board and church boards in Turlock. He sold the farm and dairy in 1978 and the family moved to Idaho in 1979, where he continued to farm. June passed away in 1983. He then married Cherry Travis in 1984 and added two children, Michael and Michelle. Marvin served on various boards and was named Outstanding Conservation Farmer in 1988.
After retiring he enjoyed antique tractors, tractor shows and traveling around the United States. He always enjoyed his time visiting with family and friends, working on church buildings and remodeling projects was always a joy to him. Marvin is survived by his wife Cherry; son David Holm (Sharyl); son Michael Travis (Michelle); daughter Michelle Husfloen (Kevin); 13 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
