Mary Elizabeth "Mary Beth" Stephens Monroe passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, October 28th at the West Valley Church in Fruitland. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Payette. Friends may call on Sunday, October 27th from 4 to 7 p.m. at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel in Payette. Mary Beth was born on August 12, 1936 to Ray and Ulah (Zeiger) Stephens. She attended the local Fruitland schools, graduating from Fruitland High School in 1954. An accomplished pianist, she studied applied music theory at Idaho State University in Pocatello. She married the late Karoly Krazsnavolgyi, Jr. in 1957. They had three daughters, one of whom passed away in infancy. After Karl's untimely death, Mary Beth married the late James David Monroe. They had two sons and a daughter.
Following her husband's work, Mary Beth relocated to Utah, California and then to Yanbu, Saudi Arabia, where she taught music at Yanbu International School, along with giving private piano lessons. She was active in the community orchestra group as well as the local theater company. Mary Beth moved back to Fruitland in 1998 to care for her mother. She was actively involved in the Fruitland High School Alumni Association, helping to lead the drive to save the old F.H.S. building and turn it into a community center. Her passion has always been music, which led her to volunteer with the Community Concerts of Treasure Valley, which helps to bring live family entertainment to the area. She has assisted that organization in many capacities, including serving as president for 5 years. She was one of the Fruitland High School band's biggest boosters, and never missed any regional performances. She is survived by her children, Julia Monroe, of Fruitland, Anita Tucker and husband Kevin, of Fruitland, Raymond Monroe and wife Grace, of Yucaipa, CA., James Monroe, of Kilauea, HI and Elizabeth Baker and husband Robin, of Burbank, CA; grandchildren Blake Monroe and wife Ashley, of Ontario, Tiffany Parsons of Nampa, Jake and Jenna Monroe of Kilauea, HI, Garrett Tucker, of Fruitland, Matthew Embernate and wife Katie, of Killeen, TX, Nikolas Embernate of Pittsburgh, PA, Alexander Embernate of Las Vegas, NM and Tristan and Hannah Monroe, of Yucaipa, CA; cousins Gaylen Searles and wife Jerri, of Fairbanks, AK, Bud Beeson, of Baker City and 3 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, George Wesley and Charles Richard, her daughter, Annette Maye and her granddaughter, Jessie Amber. Mary Beth's tireless volunteering and knack for organization was a driving force in this community. She will be greatly missed.
