Melvin Vern Marshall

Melvin Vern Marshall, 89, of Payette, formerly of New Plymouth, passed away at home on Sunday, May 25, 2014 from natural causes. A viewing will be held from 3-7 p.m., Thursday, May 29th at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, May 30th at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 31st at the Bramlet Memorial Cemetery, Lower Valley, Wallowa, OR. Condolences may be made to Melvin's family at www.shaffer-jensenchapel.com. Melvin was born July 8, 1924 in Lower Valley, OR, to Bill and Elva Marshall. Melvin met his wife Janet through a cousin and their marriage had endured for 58 loving years when she passed away eight years ago. Melvin and Janet had two children, Steven and Joanne, who were their joy. During their marriage, Melvin and Janet were also foster parents to over 100 children. Melvin enjoyed farming, ranching, fishing, hunting, camping and gardening. He was a prolific storyteller and loved to sit and visit and share stories with friends and family. Family and Church were very important to Melvin. He was always helping others and giving of his time. He loved to make toys and unique gifts that he insisted that you take one of whenever you visited. Melvin is preceded in death by his wife Janet; son Steven; daughter Joanne; mother Elva; father Bill; four brothers Emerson, Elford, Orville and Earl; and his sister Ruby. He is survived by his sister Georgia Doss of Central Point, OR; grandson Bryan Marshall of Waldorf, MD; granddaughter Brandy Taylor (James) of Payette, ID; his three great grandchildren Nicole, Dallas and Liam Taylor; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
