Mildred Gunnarson

June 11, 1918 — May 1, 2012

Mildred was born on June 11th, 1918 to Felix and Clara Johnson. She grew up and spent her entire life in the Firth/Shelley/Idaho Falls area. Mildred graduated from Firth High School in 1937 and married the love of her life, George Gunnar Gunnarson, on August 1st, 1937. They raised a family of four on the Gunnarson farm near Firth. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, she worked for 18 years at RT French Co. in Shelley. Mildred was also very active in her church, Bethel Lutheran in Firth. She loved to sew, crochet and knit and made many beautiful quilts. She was a gracious hostess and an excellent cook, as many will attest. She was especially known and loved for her Swedish pancakes by all her grandchildren. After she sold the family home in Firth, she moved to Fairwinds Assisted Living in Idaho Falls, then to Lincoln Court and finally to Good Samaritan Care Center. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was not shy to share what she was thinking. If she didn't like what you were doing or how you were doing it she would let you know but always with a smile. Her wry sense of humor could make anyone smile and laugh. Mildred is survived by her four children, daughters Elizabeth Likes of Shadow Hills, CA; Sandra (John) Spanier of Sumner, WA; Julia (Grant) Becherini of Spokane, WA; and son Kenneth Gunnarson of Firth, ID. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, George; her infant daughter, Lenora Jean; and her sister, Beatrice Worthington. The family would like to thank Mildred's dear friend and caregiver, Dianna Tieken, for continually being there for her. The family would also like to thank all of the caregivers at Good Samaritan Care Center and Hands of Hope Hospice. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her name to Good Samaritan Care Center or Bethel Lutheran Church. Funeral services will held at 12:00 p.m. Monday May 7th, 2012 at Bethel Lutheran Church 413 N. Main Street in Firth. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to services at the church.Mildred Elizabeth Johnson Gunnarson, 93, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2012 at Good Samaritan Care Center.
