Monica was born on June 23, 1925 in Aberdeen, Idaho, to Matilda (Siefried) and Christ Frey. She was one of six children. She grew up in the Aberdeen and Idaho Falls area. She graduated from high school in Ammon, Idaho. She worked at Chesbro Music in Idaho Falls until her marriage. Monica married Leo Gihring at St. John's Lutheran Church in Idaho Falls on February 25, 1951. She and Leo farmed in the Twin Falls and Clover areas until their retirement. They had three children. She was a member of Clover Trinity Lutheran church where she was active in the Lutheran Women Missionary League for many years. Monica and her husband enjoyed trips to various conventions for the Lutheran Layman's League organization as well as Kiwanis. She enjoyed belonging to multiple bowling leagues. Monica spent many years helping to administer and cook for the hot lunch program at the Lutheran school at Clover and aiding in monitoring local elections. Many family members enjoyed Monica's hospitality on the family farm throughout the years.
Monica enjoyed crafting projects. She always had something to make. She also enjoyed watching sports, especially the Boise State football team and the NBA. Monica is survived by her husband Leo, her children Barbara (Eugene) Gihring of Bremerton, Washington, Ronald (Jill) Gihring of Logan, Utah, and Debra Williams of Longmont, Colorado. She has six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Monica was preceded in death by her siblings and her parents. We would like to thank the staff at the Evergreen Place Assisted Living home for all of their care during the last twenty months. A celebration of Monica's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 6, 2015 at the Clover Lutheran Church, 3552 North 1825 East in Buhl with Pastor Steve Barckholtz officiating. Burial will follow at the Clover Cemetery. A viewing for family and friends will take place on Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at White Mortuary, 136 4th Ave. East, Twin Falls. Services are under the direction of White Mortuary, Chapel by the Park, Twin Falls. Memorials may be designated for Clover Trinity Lutheran Church or to the Lutheran Hour.
