NAOMI RUTH DOPSON
Naomi Ruth Dopson, "Nemo", of Hansen, Idaho passed away February 28, 2014, at Bridgeview Estates, due to complications from ulcerated tooth surgery at St. Luke's Hospital, just two days after her 92nd birthday.
Nemo was born in Twin Falls on February 26, 1922, to Charles "Charlie" Newton Dopson and Ivy Myrtle McIntyre Dopson, the youngest of six children. After the family had moved to the Magic Valley by train from Weir City, Kansas, they settled on a farm south of Kimberly. Some years later, after she graduated from high school, her folks bought a ranch near Hansen, where she lived the rest of her life, except the last few years, which were spent at Woodstone Assisted Living.
Nemo attended Albion State Normal School, earning a teaching degree and went on to teach in elementary schools in Aberdeen, Idaho Falls, Mullan, and Twin Falls, Idaho. She taught school for 5 years, and then worked for Dr. Carpenter, a dentist, for some 24 years, becoming a Certified Dental Assistant. Then, she took off a couple years and decided to work for Professional Service Agency, a collection agency, spending 18 years there.
In 1946, Nemo took flying lessons in Idaho Falls and California, earning her pilot's license and becoming a member of The Civil Air Patrol in Idaho. One of the few people remembering her flying time was her sister Alma, who related, that when she told her mom about flying with Nemo, her mom went through the roof and forbade her from every flying with Nemo again.
Naomi was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters; Roy Dopson, Henry Dopson, Ralph Dopson, Ralph Glover, Pauline Alastra, Juanita Gillmore, Louella Stapleton and LaVone Strate as well as her niece, Loah Allred.
Naomi never married, so most of her relation were her siblings including a living sister, Alma (Edward) Brown of Forest Grove, Oregon; and nieces and nephews, Shirley Gorrell of Kimberly; Sheila (George) Turner of Sweet, Idaho; Cathie (Dennis) Blevins of Twin Falls; Sandra (Rex) Golay of Twin Falls; Donald Alastra of Gig Harbor, Washington; Donna Leopold of Prescott, Arizona; Don (Pat) Stapleton of Gresham, Oregon; Leland (Sandy) Stapleton of Portland, Oregon; as well as many other great nieces and nephews too numerous to mention.
Upon retirement she became very busy with church work at the Kimberly Methodist Church and later at the new Crossroads United Methodist Church also in Kimberly. Naomi was also a lifelong member of the Eastern Star.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be given in her name to the Crossroads United Methodist Church. Contributions may be given to funeral chapel staff or mailed to Crossroads United Methodist Church, 131 Syringa Ave. Kimberly, Idaho 83341.
A celebration of Naomi's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at White Mortuary, 136 4th Ave. East, Twin Falls with Pastor Gary Ross officiating. Eastern Star rites by the Twin Falls Eastern Star Chapter #29. Burial will follow at Twin Falls Cemetery. A viewing for family and friends will take place on Wednesday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services.
Services are under the direction of Trent Stimpson and staff at White Mortuary, Chapel by the Park, Twin Falls.
