Doris Nell Johnson resident of Idaho falls passed away on May 27, 2017. She was born on December 29, 1925, to Joseph Samuel Dyar and Grace (Brown) Dyar in Blount County, Alabama. She graduated in 1944 from Marshall County High School in Guntersville, Alabama, where she was a cheerleader. She was married to Blair D. Johnson on June 26, 1943. She lived with her parents in Chattanooga, Tennessee, until her husband was released from the U. S. Coast Guard at the end of World War II. They lived in Chattanooga while Blair finished college at the University of Chattanooga, and then they moved to Nashville as Blair attended Vanderbilt University. The couple then moved to Oak Ridge, Tennessee for a few months prior to moving to Idaho Falls, Idaho, in 1951.
Nell was a member of First Lutheran Church of Idaho Falls where she participated in the choir and Happy Stitchers for many years. She was particularly proud of singing in the choir, and she often talked about delivering the quilts made by the Happy Stitchers to the Idaho Youth Ranch near Rupert, where she was so touched by the young boys who received them with such joy. She was a wonderful southern cook and loved to make her special Christmas breads to share with her family and with church groups.
Nell was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her husband and children: Sharon Nell Edwards (Mark) of Pocatello, Idaho; Stanley Blair Johnson (Sue) of Trout Lake, Washington; Gary Daniel Johnson (Laura) of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and Craig Alan Johnson (Giang) of Minneapolis, Minnesota. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and a number of step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Martha, and a granddaughter.
Nell and Blair were married 74 years.
