Nile Earl Darling

January 9, 1923 — December 10, 2013

He attended Jerome High School. Nile was married to and divorced from Edna Buttcane Darling. Nile enlisted in the US Marine Corps in Nov. of 1942. Shortly after completing training as a tank mechanic and a tank crewman, he was sent overseas in support of WWII. During his tours he participated in many battles including Roi-Namur, Siapan, Tinian and Iwo Jima. He was honorably discharged in Nov. of 1945. In 1952 Nile joined the Idaho National Guard as a Supply Sergeant and Platoon Sergeant. After working for quite a few different companies, Nile retired with the rank of W-4 Warrant Officer in Jan. of 1983. Prior to and after his military service he held various positions with the Idaho Fish and Game, Copeland, Stunz, Volco Lumber Yards and Union Pacific Railroad.

He loved to watch sports on TV.... especially enjoyed watching the San Francisco 49er's play football and MMA Fighting. He also became an avid Boise State fan and hardly ever missed a game. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing with his buddies. He is survived by his brother Grant Darling and wife Vivian, two daughters Cheryl D. Darling and Nancy E. Dodson and husband Jeff Dodson, 6 grandkids, 16 great grandkids, 4 great-great grandkids, as well as many nieces and nephews. Nile was preceded in death by his mother Viola Darling, his father Scott Darling, his brothers Joe, Russell, Darrell, Meryl and Jack Darling, son Ron Darling, daughter Patsy Darling Campbell, grandson Jared Dodson and great grandson Dustin Williamson. A viewing will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 13th at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, New Plymouth. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14th at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, New Plymouth. A short graveside service will follow at Park View Cemetery, New Plymouth. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in kind to the Wounded Warriors Foundation, c/o Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, P.O. Box 730, Payette, ID 83661. He passed away on Dec. 10, 2013 at the age of 90 with his family at his side.
