Twin Falls- Nora Catharine McKinney, 94, of Twin Falls passed away Saturday, May 21, 2011 while resting peacefully at home with family by her side. Catharine was born on January 28th , 1917 in Russellville, Illinois to Wallace and Laverna Wilber. Catharine worked on the family farm from a young age with her 4 siblings. In 1947 Catharine left Illinois and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. There she married Stanley Russell McKinney on December 17th, 1948. In 1951 they had their only daughter Farla Jane McKinney. In 1968 the family moved to Twin Falls, Idaho. In previous years they had spent their summers fishing on the Salmon River in the Sawtooth Stanley Basin and in the Twin Falls area.
Catharine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and life-long friend to many. She always had a keen sense of humor and loving words. Her charming and witty personality won her the affection and admiration of all who had the pleasure of knowing her. To know her was to be loved by her. Catharine was always full of hugs, smiles and funny stories. She had an infectious laugh that could brighten any situation. She loved her family and grandkids and was always an inspiration to everyone. Catharine was a full time caregiver to her husband, the love of her life, for many years. Her home and kitchen was always open to her friends and family. As anyone who knew her could tell you she was the best cook from her sourdough pancakes to her wonderfully famous tacos.
She was one of the original Sawtooth Mountain Mamas in Stanley and she loved her time spent on the Salmon River with her many wonderful friends and family. Catharine loved sewing, knitting, fishing, baseball, soccer, and watching her grandchildren play and grow. She loved life and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Catharine is preceded in death by her husband Stanley McKinney. She is survived by her daughter Farla Schiermeier and son-in-law Tom Schiermeier of Twin Falls, her grandchildren Chad Schiermeier of Hailey and family, and Ryan Schiermeier and family of Twin Falls. A sister and brother from Illinois, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to very sincerely thank the many devoted friends, doctors, nurses, and wonderful people who were devoted to her care. A memorial service will be held at 2:00P.M Thursday, May 26th at Whites Mortuary in Twin Falls. There will be a private viewing for family and friends on Wednesday, May 25th, from 6 to 8 P.M. at Whites Mortuary, Twin Falls.Nora Catharine McKinney
