We wish to thank their staff and Legacy Hospice for keeping Mom comfortable and out or pain, as much as possible. They made our Dad feel welcome.
Norma was born Feb. 4, 1926 to Walter Samuel and Alsa June Batie. The family moved to Fruitland when she was 12 years old, where she met Clayton Barker. Upon her graduation, she went to work at the Statesman Newspaper in Boise, while exchanging letters with Clay, who was away in the Air Force. On his return, they were married on Dec. 17, 1946. Mom loved her family, enjoyed pinochle with friends, and cherished her many trips with her husband for 68 years; only missing 69 years by 37 days!
Norma's work history as secretary, besides the Statesman, included Ore Ida and the longest time at Ontario Employment Office, where she retired! She would claim, though, her most important job, was raising four kids!! Four children born to Norma and Clayton, according to age is as follows: daughter, Cherie (Barker) Derrick and husband David, giving Norma two grandchildren from a previous marriage, Shawn Bergseng and Stacia Bergseng; son, Bruce Barker and wife Magdalena with another grandson for mom, Eric; son, Ross Barker and wife Donna; son, Jim Barker and wife Christy with another grandson, Mike and granddaughter Stephanie (both from a previous marriage, due to a death). Great grandchildren, Brody Jacob Wittenburg; Chase Allen Wittenburg; Ty Hunter Walsingham; and Julia Francesca Bergseng. She is also survived by one brother, Dick Batie and wife Dorothy. Norma was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Roland Batie, Delmar Batie, Rowena Batie DeCoursey, Rhoda Batie Wilson, and Russell Batie.
We all hate to lose this wonderful, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Sleep peacefully, Mama!Norma Mae (Batie) Barker passed away peacefully, at the age of 89, with her loving husband, Clayton Arthur Barker age 93, at her side through her difficult time at Payette Care Center.
