Obed Jantz

August 23, 1923 — May 7, 2011

Our husband, father, and grandfather, Obed Jantz, was born to Benjamin and Lavina (Koehn) Jantz on Aug. 26, 1923 at Durham, KS. He quietly left this world on May 7, 2011 at home in rural New Plymouth, ID. At fourteen years of age he accepted the Lord as his personal Savior and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on Nov. 11, 1938. Dad was not without his faults and weaknesses. As he looked toward his time of departure he sought to make his calling and election sure. As a family we have reason to believe that Dad is safe in the arms of Jesus. Dad grew up on the family farm in Durham, KS. During WWII he entered CPS service at Three Rivers, CA. While in service he met our mother, Viola Wedel. They were married on March 23, 1947 at Winton, CA by Min. Jake H. Loewen. Our parents were blessed with 64 years of marriage. To this union were born one son and two daughters.

Our parents began their married life on a dairy farm near Livingston, CA. After selling the dairy they continued farming sweet potatoes and almonds. Dad enjoyed operating a gift and shop on their yard. He was a Sunday school teacher and congregational book agent as well as serving on the food committee for many years. He was always ready to help others in their financial needs according to his ability to do so. After their retirement our parents moved to New Plymouth, ID in the spring of 1991 becoming part of the new congregation there. He volunteered his time for the congregation's various maintenance projects. Our parents enjoyed traveling, visiting relatives, and listening to singing. Dad was concerned about his spiritual welfare and that of his family. Recently he expressed a readiness to meet the Lord. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Viola, one son, Ron and Rita Jantz, New Plymouth, ID, two daughters, Karen Jantz, New Plymouth, ID, Kathy Wright, Livingston, CA, five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one brother Willard and Linda Jantz, Atwater, CA, one sister, Lela and Harry Wedel, Durham, KS, three sisters in law, Madeline Jantz, Galva, KS, Rebecca Jantz, and Dorothy Jantz, both of Livingston, CA. His parents, one great grandson, five brothers, two sisters and their husbands preceded him in death. Memorials may be made to Harrison's Hope Hospice, c/o Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, P.O. Box 730, Payette, ID 83661.
